Senior Data Engineer


InterSTEM are currently working on behalf of our client that has an open vacancy for a Senior Data Engineer to lead them through their data transformation. This is an opportunity where the sole purpose of the vacancy is to make a vital difference to the way the company report information in the future; so if you want a role that you can make an impact in, keep reading.

This vacancy will be a crucial position in designing and developing the way my client uses data going forward as well as being the first within a newly data centric team. My client aims for data to be at the core of the way they operate within the next few years, so this person will be instrumental in helping them to make their vision a reality.

The Senior Data Engineer will help my client move from being report led to data led. They will be responsible for building their internal database that will help them offer further insight into the qualitative and quantitative data they posses.


  • Ownership over the data science and analytics side of technical solutions
  • Manage and develop their database that is made using AWS Snowflake
  • Contribute from concept through to product prototype for client solutions by regularly consulting with internal and external development teams
  • Implementation of solutions and platform
  • Provide support as a technical specialist as data is transferred from MS Excel Datasets
  • The project is to build the database, then to grow it in a way that is scalable and efficient and then development using machine learning techniques would be implemented.

Key Skills Required:

  • Experience working on a strategic long term project / database strategy planning.
  • Strong communication skills will be required to present business cases to non-technical stakeholders / colleagues
  • Capable of competently use Python
  • Competent knowledge of AWS cloud platform (Snowflake is preferable, but not essential)
  • Data modelling, architecture, developing, customising and interfacing databases
  • Data visualisation
  • Eligible to work in the UK

Experience desired from applicants for the Data Science Solutions Architect:

  • Knowledge or experience using Docker with ECS, CloudTrail, CloudWatch or S3 with Terraform (Not essential, but advantageous)
  • Prior experience using Snowflake, Metabase or Tableau are also desirable
  • Machine Learning experience / exposure – Question/Answer space is of particular interest
  • Search system knowledge is advantageous
