Materials Application Engineer

Our client is well respected within their industry and has over 30 years of success in supplying customers around the world with world class materials. Focusing on the future they are a looking to develop their technical leadership team by hiring a Materials Application Engineer that will help create further business opportunities within their existing material range.

The Materials Engineer will have experience in Material Science and Engineering as they will play a vital role in developing their Materials Division; which through progression, this individual could eventually be a leader of.

Key Duties:

  • Work closely with Materials Scientist to develop further core materials range
  • Define new field of application for materials and develop new technology in line with market needs.
  • Identify and conduct evaluation of new material applications to support customer needs
  • Support Engineering team to selecting best materials for new applications.
  • Understand and develop novel processing and production methods
  • Determine and optimise materials for new processes and new applications
  • Write materials specifications, test procedures, SOPs
  • Engage with and manage external partners and vendors for materials development and drive to successful realisation in production
  • Develop and evaluate improved composition of custom formulations
  • Monitor the performance and quality of material range.

Key Skills And Qualifications:

  • Degree / Master’s in Materials Science / Engineering
  • Tangible industry work experience (technical / commercial)
  • R&D experience in materials formulation and/or characterization
  • Experience and familiarity with resins
  • Evidence of exceptional ability and track record of execution of materials development
  • Experience in polymer processing, specifically at manufacturing scale
  • Exceptional organisation, collaboration, and communication skills (e.g. report writing)
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Detailed-oriented, able to work both independently and in a collaborative project-focused environment, prompt and dependable
  • Customer orientated


  • Specialism in Polymers, Ceramics or Glass is advantageous
